Home page redesign

For 7 months I worked with Minke to improve their existing app and release many new features. I had sole responsibility for, design, research and communicating with developers and founders. My team consisted of 2 developers, 1 product manager, 1 graphic designer and constant leads from marketing.

Team setup

1 front-end developer, 1 full-stack developer, 1 product manager, 1 visual designer and constant leads from marketing.

Minke's goal is to make it simple for users to access DeFi and purchase cryptocurrency, but the current homepage does not effectively achieve this objective.

Some of the problems are the lack of hierarchy, scalability and easy access to relevant information. New users also experienced a shocking first impression when presented with so many options with little guidance on what to do next.

The problem

As our total monthly active users increased, it became clear that there were problems with the current design. We noticed a high bouncing rate among new users and began to investigate ways to improve this.

After speaking with some users and reviewing UX Cam recordings, it became evident that the home page was the main issue. It lacked clarity and hierarchy, which made it difficult for users to navigate and access the app's features.

In particular, the add funds button was often missed due to the cluttered layout of the home page, which required users to have funds in order to fully utilise the app. To address these issues, we will need to redesign the home page to provide clearer guidance and make it easier for users to access the features they need.

New home page + hub

The new design was meant to solve many of the problems mentioned at once. This included moving our features out of the home page and making a brand new Minke hub where our ever increasing number of features could live and be categorised in a logical way.

By doing this the home page was automatically decluttered and could fit new features like informative stories and an overview of the user's investments performance.

After releasing the new design new users had an easier time understanding the logic of the app and were more compelled to purchase crypto and new features could be easily added and categorised in the Minke hub.
